Everytime someone talks about a manned trip to Mars, one of the biggest concerns is the time it takes to travel that distance. We have always thought it would take at least 6 months to make the trip. That poses some pretty big problems, especially at our current level of “space travel” experience.


Enter Dr. Young Bae. He claims his invention, the Photonic Laser Thruster, can cut that down to just under a week. Wow.

I do see some potential issues with his method, such as braking. But those things can be worked out, I’m sure. The real problem will be how NASA can make an infrastructure of “cheap” lasers cost billions. They are going to have to work on that one, but I’m sure they’ll think of something.
